Still Pushing Pineapples Director Q&A

31 December 2025
What happens when you’ve made the “worst hit song ever” — at least according to the music press?

The Station Cinema are hosting an exclusive director Q&A screening of Still Pushing Pineapples this January and tickets are available now.

A hilarious & surprisingly moving documentary following former pop star Dene Michael, as he clings to the last rays of fame from his time in 1980s novelty pop group Black Lace (Agadoo, Conga, I Am The Music Man).

The Station Cinema which is one of Time Out Magazine’s ‘Best Cinemas in the UK & Ireland’ are one of only a handful of venues nationwide offering a Q&A with director Kim Hopkins, and it takes place on Sunday 18 January at 6.00pm.

“We are thrilled to welcome back Kim, who previously joined us for a screening of A Bunch of Amateurs, which was an amazingly funny and heartwarming piece” said General Manager Dan Westgarth.

“I am delighted to welcome her back for Still Pushing Pineapples, which she discussed with our audience in her last Q&A — I’m sure it will be a brilliant watch, giving keen moviegoers a chance to ask their questions about the production in an intimate setting. And secretly I hope... we can all do ‘the Conga afterwards”

The film follows Dene as he performs across some of the UK’s most deprived seaside towns and cities for an ever-ageing audience, determined to keep his music career alive and step out from the long shadow of Black Lace.

Along for the ride also, are his spirited 89-year-old mum, Anne, and his sassy girlfriend Haley, as the trio travel across Britain and the Costa del Sol in this heartwarming British road movie.
